A reply to the Lunacy Team about my concerns

My apologies as I don’t even know what to call this. If I am mistaken, you may remove or move this.

Previously I wrote a topic called something like “Should I be concerned about the future of Lunacy?” It was an honest and thoughtful reaching out to the Lunacy team. I’ve been extremely busy and finally remembered and had time to reply. I can’t seem to find the post I made and could not seem to log in anymore. Was the topic and account removed?

To reply to the best of my remembrance, moving an element to a folder does not let you drag it into a folder. Only if you have the folder open will if nest inside. I couldn’t get it dragged into the folder. It snaps to the top or bottom and moves the folder position. This seems like something reasonable and intuitive to expect.

As for UI issues I was frustrated with, its things like the text on path tool. It finicky and one of the reasons is it creates an invisible vertical text box. You can’t find this box easily because its separate from the path. In order to adjust text or its position requires moving in the vertical box and it doesn’t do what you expect.

I was expecting it to work like Adobe’s integration where the cursor follows the path, you can click between characters and start editing text. I was hoping for anchor points at the end of the path to adjust the starting and ending point text would adjust to on it.

When I scale that path by holding Alt Shift Ctrl or whatever it was, I was expecting that these commands to transform the selected elements that the text size would scale with the resizing like the path would be.

In this instance I’ve been putting text on a circle. I’ve been spoiled by Adobes simple and intuitive implementation which also easily allowed for the text to be inverted on the path.

Its been a while since I’ve used Lunacy so I can’t remember all my frustrations. I didn’t feel like my concerns were addressed and perhaps I hit a nerve. Regardless, despite your AI team being separate from your main team, I was still perplexed at the pace that the project can see significant forward momentum.

Am I out of line to feel like since I started using it about one year ago, it seems like only one or two updates have released according to the release notes? I wondered how could the team possibly handle the backlog of requests on this forum of all these fringe requests? Are they being covertly added and I’m not aware?

In the event I was “removed” because I could not reply immediately, that is disappointing on several levels as I had no intention of malice.

I would like to try to work with you but I also feel like a burden being just another user needing niche features.

Best regards.

Hi!

Thank you for your feedback. Your previous topic hasn’t been removed or moved; it’s still right here on the Lunatics community.

We have big plans for Lunacy and are actively working on fixing bugs and adding new features. You can check out the latest beta version of Lunacy 12 using this guide.

We’ll look into the issues you’ve mentioned and try to address them in upcoming releases. We’ll keep you updated.

Thank for the reply. Despite my best efforts I could not find the topic. Maybe it’s just me but I find the forums challenging to navigate. I will attempt to log in again.

I have installed version 12 and it immediately recommended I go down to 11.6 to avoid issues.

I still don’t see meaningful.progress for the project on the surface level, but perhaps I’m ignorant.

If you have written down the feedback, please feel free to lock or remove this thread.

Your last topic is in another forum called Lunatics, which is solely dedicated to Lunacy. You can find it right here: Should I be concerned about the future of Lunacy? — Lunacy Community Space

I also recommend checking out our public backlog for Lunacy to keep track of the progress in real time: https://icons8.com/lunacy-backlog

After looking into the issue that you’ve addressed, we have added a new task to improve the ability to add shapes to a group. The current procedure is that you have to place the cursor a bit to the right of the tree, so that Lunacy would get that you want to place the shape deeper, which is a bit complicated indeed.

Thank you for pointing me towards the backlog. It doesn’t seem like you put any of these many updates in your patch notes for releases. Or am I not understanding?

Sometimes multiple fixes are grouped under “Bug Fixed” or “Improved Overall Performance,” since issues are often interconnected. If you’re looking for a specific reported issue, checking the backlog is usually the best option.

Is it alright to keep using this thread for feedback or would you like me to use another?

I still find challenges in intuitiveness. You’d think moving the mouse wheel up and down would zoom out, but it doesn’t. You’d think pressing Ctrl 0 would zoom in on the item selected. I think id want a command to zoom into a selected element to fill the screen.

Sure, you can use this thread to share your thoughts on how Lunacy can be improved.

Thank you for your thoughts on zooming! I’ll pass them on to our team, and we’ll see if we can make this feature more intuitive.

Thanks for waiting!

You can turn on the mouse wheel zoom by enabling the Zoom with Scroll Wheel feature here:

Zooming to the selected element is done with Ctrl+2.

Wait, did you just add that or was that always there?

Sometimes I get a little nervous and second guess myself. Am i making things better or worse? I’m so used to Photoshop. It just feels like the “standard”. Its hard to adapt.

Mouse wheel does the same thing in Photoshop, but I’m not sure why. Is it to pan for mice that had 4 way wheels? Can people not click hold the wheel?

This feature has been available as an option for a while. The default behavior is Ctrl + mouse wheel to zoom in and out, and Shift + mouse wheel to move horizontally across the canvas.

  • Ctrl + 0 resets the zoom to 100%
  • Ctrl + 1 zooms to fit all content on the screen
  • Ctrl + 2 zooms to the selected item

Well now, I feel incredibly foolish that those features were already there.

I am going to go over the tutorials on your website to better familiarize myself with the features.

Question: can you place mutilple elements on a path, say a circle or a hexagon and evenly space them? Maybe drag/move them along the path to change their position while maintaining the even spacing?

No worries at all! It’s easy to miss things. Checking out the tutorials is a perfect next step, and your questions actually help us see what we can make clearer :folded_hands:t2:

Currently, the “type on a path” feature is specifically for text. Placing multiple objects along a path isn’t something we can do yet, but that’s an interesting suggestion for us to consider.

Actually your tutorials are the best I’ve ever seen. Concise, step by step clarity, but most importantly east to follow videos!

OK, what about doing patterns for separate elements independent of paths? Say, right click a folder or a selected elements and choose “pattern layout” which gives you a value from 0 for circle or a number for how many sides. This could allow shapes or images to be quickly presented this way evenly spaced out.

A 6 sided hexagon with 6 elements have them placed at each point. A slider could move them along the imaginary outline. Adding another element to the folder would update the layout.

No idea if anyone wants this but it would personally be useful.

Thank you, we’re trying to make our tutorials as easy to follow as possible! As for the pattern feature that you’ve described, Lunacy doesn’t have it at the moment. That being said, you can leave a request for this functionality here, and if it gets enough upvotes, we’ll start working on it: New requests — Lunacy Community Space
